Why support our campaign?

Here at Thompson Drive, we strongly believe there are some values and skills that are timeless. To lose them, would be to lose what makes us human. And perhaps, there is nothing more ageless and treasured than the concept of a “good neighbor.”

In the 1980s and the decades preceding, communities had streets and blocks for kids to gather, play, and hang out on - all under the watchful eyes of caring neighbors. The neighbors often steered the kids away from trouble, and children learned safely how to negotiate the world beyond their homes.

Unfortunately, for many teens growing up in Brooklyn today, the very streets that once offered a strong sense of community and security can now be the source of negative influences and derailing behavior. Thompson Drive strives to recreate this sense of neighborhood camaraderie for these teenagers while providing them with the resources needed as they prepare for a successful transition to adulthood. Since our founding, we have provided mentoring, educational and life-skills workshops, as well as weekly hot meals to teenagers in the Coney Island neighborhood.

With this in mind, we are launching our year-end campaign, “Be A Neighbor.” This is an exciting opportunity that will help us grow our impact even further, putting your love into action by providing a place for youth to feel seen, safe, and listened to.
